Certified Organic
Fair Trade Coffees
Methow Valley Roasters is especially pleased to offer
several certified organic fair trade coffees and blends. Those
coffees we sell labeled "Fair Trade Certified" are certified
by TransFair USA, an independent non-profit organization which
monitors and certifies Fair Trade products in the United States.
"Fair Trade raises incomes and living standards for small
coffee farmers overseas while helping to protect the environment.
Fair Trade doesn't provide aid or charity, but instead promotes
self-reliance and equality for farmers who are disadvantaged under
present trading conditions." To learn more about TransFair
USA check out http://www/transfairusa.org./
Fair Trade Certification empowers farmers and farm workers to
lift themselves out of poverty by investing in their farms and
communities, protecting the environment, and developing the business
skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
Fair Trade offers farmers a fair price for their coffee ($1.26/pound
or $1.41/pound if organic).
Workers on Fair Trade farms enjoy safe working conditions and
a living wage. Forced child labor is strictly prohibited.
Harmful agrochemicals and GMOs are strictly prohibited in favor
of environmentally sustainable farming methods.
Over 80% of Fair Trade Certified coffee sold in the U.S. is also
shade grown. Growing coffee and cocoa under the shade of natural
forest canopy preserves crucial habitats for a diverse array of
plants, animals, insects, and migratory birds.
